ARTIST STATEMENT
Time and place shape our essence.
These ROCKSCAPES are an invitation to pause, look closer, and discover the extraordinary hiding within the ordinary. The way the sun moves, creating light and shadow. One moment the landscape is visible the next it’s gone. Disappearing into nothingness, absorbed by its surroundings, and lost in the real world.
In an age of instant imagery and quick judgments, these photographs invite a dialog between nature, me as a photographer, and the viewer. They capture the moment when perception shifts – when what we think we’re seeing transforms into something else entirely. Each image represents not just a place, but an instant when light, time, and texture meet.
An De Smedt is a multidisciplinary artist based in Antwerp, Belgium. Through Art, Food and Conversations she aims to take a step back from the fast-pace digital world and connect in a more analog mindset. What’s more analog than rocks?
